One of my lovely friends (Tracy Olan) that's a photographer challenges herself (and others) to find hearts in natural places. So I'm always on the lookout and last weekend one washed up right at my toes on my usual beach.

My supplier is in town!

My business isn't like most other businesses. I can't simply walk in a store and buy my supplies when I need them. I have to wait for mother nature to come to town. And she's here! Springtime is the best time to collect beach glass, and now the ice has just left the harbour, I finally got my first haul yesterday. Have a look!

Lately, customers have been telling me a lot about their own beach pottery collections. Similar to beach glass, only instead of glass it's pottery, ceramic or porcelain. Here is one of my favourites in my own collection. Mostly because of the detail in the design and the size of it (larger than a toonie, shown here with a penny). My estimate is mid-50's.

Thanks to a friend (Tina), I have all this great beach glass from Lake Ontario. It's so smooth and perfect. There's even toppers, bottle necks and great uncommon colours like teal and aqua, mauve and a very light green.

I've been wanting to share this for weeks but had to wait until 'Eric' had received it. This map of Italy was a custom piece from a wife to her husband. He found the beach glass on their honeymoon in Italy and she asked me to make something for him with it. It's a painting of Italy, but it opens. Inside there is a sweet little love note from her to him. It was very fun to make.

Ok - it's not really Stop her, it's a stopper! A full, still intact bottle stopper. This stopper was found in Bermuda last May.

Snuggle up next to the Fire

These pieces always get a good questioning look from my customers. Why are they like that? ..they ask. So, the short answer is they are called Bonfire Glass. The have deep pits and grooves created during the severe dehydration they went through in a fire. Then most likely were tossed (or swept) into the lake and over many years turned smoothly into beach glass.

The brown one almost looks like it has chunks of gold in it - don't you think? Wish it did!

Well, he found one anyways. This past weekend, at my favourite beach on Lake Ontario. I couldn't go out as I busy with the Gift Giving Show all weekend, but he did a quick search for me and found a much treasured marble! Amazing. Can't wait to work on my marble design for it in January!
